You can start an online business in Bangladesh with ৳20,000 to ৳50,000: pick one product category you understand, buy a small first batch, open a free online store, and sell through Facebook and TikTok with Cash on Delivery. This guide shows where that money goes, how to choose a product, and a day-by-day plan for your first 30 days.

Written by the Sellsull team, October 2026. The numbers below are examples to help you plan, not promises. Your costs depend on your product and city.

Is a low-budget online business realistic in Bangladesh?

Yes. Many of the shops on Sellsull started with one or two products and a small Facebook ad budget. Daily Shop sold more than 4,500 orders in two and a half months with just six products. What makes a small start work is not the size of the budget but three habits: testing before buying big stock, confirming every COD order by phone, and spending ad money only on products that already sell.

Where ৳30,000 goes: an example budget

ItemExample costNotes
First stock৳15,000One product in 2 to 3 variants, enough for 30 to 60 orders
Facebook / TikTok ads৳8,000Around ৳300 to ৳500 a day for the first few weeks
Packaging৳2,000Poly mailers, boxes, stickers, thank-you cards
Product photos and video৳0 to ৳1,500A phone, daylight and a plain background are enough
Online store৳0 to ৳500 / monthSellsull Starter is free; Professional is ৳500 a month
Domain (optional)about ৳1,200 / yearA .com domain; you can start on a free subdomain
Cash buffer৳2,500Courier COD payouts take a few days; returns cost money

The biggest mistake is putting the whole budget into stock. Keep at least a quarter for ads and a cushion, because COD money arrives days after delivery. Full cost breakdown: How much does an online store cost in Bangladesh?

Step 1: Choose the right product

A good first product for a small budget is:

  • Something you understand. You will answer customer questions all day. Knowing the product helps you sell and choose stock.
  • Light and hard to break. Couriers charge by weight, and broken items come back.
  • Priced ৳500 to ৳2,500. Below that, delivery charges eat the margin; above that, COD buyers hesitate and fake orders hurt more.
  • At least 40% margin after product cost, so you can pay for ads, packaging and the occasional return.
  • Easy to show in a video. Facebook and TikTok sell what people can see working.

Not sure what to sell? Read what products sell best online in Bangladesh, then where to source them.

Step 2: Test before you stock up

Buy a small batch, or take photos of a supplier's sample and sell on pre-order with an advance payment. If 20 to 30 people order in a week from a small ad, buy more. If nobody orders, you lost a few thousand taka, not your whole budget. Sellsull supports pre-orders with advance payment.

Step 3: Open your store

A Facebook page alone works for a few orders a day, but it gets messy quickly: orders hide in the inbox, you cannot track ads properly, and customers do not trust a page without a website. A store gives you a checkout, order list, courier booking and ad tracking.

  1. Create a free Sellsull store (Starter: up to 10 products on a free subdomain).
  2. Pick a template, add your logo and products with clear photos and honest descriptions.
  3. Turn on Cash on Delivery and set inside-Dhaka and outside-Dhaka delivery charges.
  4. Connect a courier account (Steadfast, Pathao, RedX or Carrybee).
  5. Build a landing page for your main product. See how to build a landing page for Facebook ads.

When you need more products or your own domain, move to Professional (৳500 a month, 100 products). Platinum (৳1,500 a month) removes the product and order limits and adds POS, the fraud checker, upsells and combos. Facebook Pixel and Conversions API also need a paid plan.

Step 4: Your first 30 days

Days 1 to 7: set up and soft launch

  • Finish the store, place a test order yourself and book a test parcel.
  • Post the products on your Facebook page, Instagram and TikTok. Share with friends and family groups for the first honest reviews.
  • Shoot 3 to 5 short videos: unboxing, the product in use, a close-up of quality.

Days 8 to 14: first ads

Days 15 to 21: keep what works

  • Turn off ads that cost more per order than your margin allows. Put that money into the best one.
  • Ask happy buyers for a review with a photo. Reviews show on your product page.
  • Restock the variant that sells most; skip what does not.

Days 22 to 30: raise the order value

  • Add a free-delivery rule, such as free delivery on 2 items. See free delivery rules.
  • Offer a matching product or a combo at checkout.
  • Check the numbers: orders, returns, ad spend, profit. Decide whether to scale, change the product, or keep testing.

Five ways small sellers lose money

  1. Not confirming COD orders. Every parcel that is refused costs you the delivery and the return charge.
  2. Buying too much stock too early.
  3. Boosting posts instead of running proper ads. "Boost" optimises for likes, not orders.
  4. Ignoring fake orders. Check a customer's courier history and block repeat offenders. See how to stop fake COD orders.
  5. Mixing business and personal money. Keep a simple record of every taka in and out from day one.

Legal basics

To start testing, most small sellers simply begin. As you grow, get a trade licence from your city corporation or union parishad, and a TIN. A business bank account and a bKash merchant account make payments easier and look more trustworthy. Rules change, so check the current requirements with your local office.

Frequently asked questions

How much money do I need to start an online business in Bangladesh?

Many sellers start with ৳20,000 to ৳50,000, mostly for a small first stock and ads. The online store itself can be free at the start.

Can I start an online business without any stock?

Yes, with pre-orders: show a supplier's sample, take an advance payment, and buy only what has been ordered. Delivery takes longer, so tell customers clearly.

Which is the most profitable online business in Bangladesh?

There is no single answer. Clothing, cosmetics, gadgets accessories and food items sell well, but profit comes from margin, low returns and cheap customer acquisition, not from the category alone.

Do I need a website, or is a Facebook page enough?

A page is enough to test. Once you get several orders a day, a website helps you track ads, manage orders and book couriers. See moving from a Facebook page to an online store.

How long until I make a profit?

It varies. Expect the first month to be about learning which product and ad work. Track cost per confirmed order from the start so you can see the turning point.
